      <image:title>Programs</image:title>
<image:caption>Having worked with this population for so many years, we have heard their issues, fears and obstacles and have created this program to directly address them. The unique part that Creative Acts adds to this cutting edge Virtual Reality program is the use of artistic practices, such as theatre, drawn and written art, to address and support the emotional outcomes of returning and the trauma prison life leaves on the human condition as well as breaking down barriers of race and gang affiliation to demonstrably lessen violence and build community. Therapeutic Art intervention can assist individuals with improving locus of control, enhance mood and receptiveness for additional interventions. The digital immersive experience of VR will affect: 1.The individual’s ability to redevelop capacity to take in sensory information without being overwhelmed. 2.The individual’s ability to regulate emotional response to sensory input. 3.The individual’s ability to cognitively process the sensory input and emotional response to make proper decisions and solve problems effectively. Measures are Nowicki-Strickland Locus of Control, assessment, [Gussak, 2007] hair samples, heart rate, eye movement (biofeedback</image:caption>

      <image:title>Our Advisory Board - Yahniie Bridges</image:title>
<image:caption>Yahniie Bridges is a social justice advocate who transitioned through the foster care, mental health and juvenile justice systems all before the age of sixteen. As a teen mom from the inner-city, there were many things that Yahniee didn’t have access to like restorative justice, art therapy, creative writing and serving others before yourself. She rose above her circumstance. For the past nine years, Yahniie has dedicated her life to advocacy for system-involved youth. She remembers the feeling of being given hope and she believes that everyone deserves their right to hope as human beings. The fact that Yahniie was taught how to be available to hear her own voice gave her the power to advocate for others. Yahniie’s experience doesn't make her a victim; it makes her a compassionate guide. Working with over eight community-based organizations across Los Angeles, Yahniee stands in the community solely as an advocate for equity, reform and empowerment.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Pamela Thompson's life story is one of resilience, growth, and a profound commitment to making a positive impact. Having served 24 years in prison, she experienced firsthand the challenges and obstacles that come with incarceration. However, it was during this time that Pamela embarked on a transformative journey of self-discovery and personal development. Through active participation in various self-help groups, Pamela gained invaluable insights into her own lifestyle choices and the factors that led her down the wrong path. These experiences became a turning point in her life, igniting a deep desire to help others avoid similar mistakes and find a path to a better future. Driven by her own experiences, Pamela became a dedicated facilitator, working tirelessly to support individuals in their reentry journey after incarceration. Her personal journey of growth and resilience enables her to connect with others who face similar challenges, providing them with guidance, empathy, and the tools they need to navigate the complexities of reintegrating into society. Pamela Thompson's life's work embodies the power of transformation and the potential for redemption. Her dedication to helping others reenter society after incarceration reflects her unwavering belief in second chances and her relentless pursuit of a more inclusive and compassionate society.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Alumni Laboratory - Simeon Alexander</image:title>
<image:caption>Simeon Alexander is a visionary multidisciplinary artist, poet, and wellness facilitator based in Los Angeles whose work transforms personal history into collective healing. Through conceptual installations, spoken word, and performance art, Simeon explores themes of resilience, incarceration, addiction recovery, and social awareness. His bold public activations—like My Mark, Diet, and Bounce Back—invite direct audience participation, making art a living dialogue rather than a static experience. Each piece challenges societal norms while uplifting those often left unheard, blending fine art, poetry, and community engagement into a powerful, unified force. Born from a journey of redemption, Simeon’s creative acts serve as both personal expression and public service. Whether sculpting mandalas from meditative dotwork or leading poetic therapy workshops for justice-impacted individuals, he believes art should reflect truth and foster transformation. His work isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence, participation, and purpose. Simeon’s mission is simple yet profound: to make creativity a tool for connection, emotional release, and societal reflection, showing that healing is possible through the arts.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My name is Randall Ellis, one of the newest members of the Alumni Lab. It has been an honor for me to join this organization because it is a passion of mine to try and help our young people. That is a passion that I hold near and dear to my heart. Because I know as a young person myself what it is like to grow up in an environment of uncertainty. Instability within the home. I know what is like to struggle with low self-esteem, low self-worth, and I know what it’s like to think that I found that esteem, and self-worth with my association with gangs, I know what it is like to descend into deeper patterns of criminality in order to prove that I belonged. As a young person myself, I went to prison at the age of 16, and I would spend the next 40 years of my life in what I now understand to be a living hell. So it is with passion that I continue the journey to help other young people recognize and correct the thinking distortions that will certainly lead to the same hell that they may be experiencing right now in their lives. To my Alumni Lab colleagues, I applaud your dedication and I am anxious to learn from you the best practices in trudging the path.</image:caption>

<image:caption>My name is Kevin C. Waters and I grew up in Gardena, California with my two sisters and one brother. Unfortunately I was introduced to the gang lifestyle at a very young age. This introduction pulled me away from magnet programs, friends and even family members. The attraction and immersion in such a negative lifestyle led me to a life of crime and eventually a 41-year to life prison sentence by the age of 18. I was blessed to use my incarceration wisely getting a degree and several certification. I was also able to connect with my humanity through various programs like Hospice and Victim Impact. Programs like these and many others have helped me to have healthy relationships with my family, friends and future wife. It has also led me to Co-found the Dream Live Hope Foundation, which focuses on supporting returning citizens and those who have been system impacted. My life is blessed, my mind is at peace, and my faith is stronger than ever!</image:caption>
