Art Attacks! Program Manager: Job Description

Creative Acts is an organization that seeks to transform urgent social justice issues through the revolutionary power of the Arts; to heal trauma, build community, raise power, and center the voices of those who are or have been incarcerated. 

Art Attacks! Manager:

The Art Attacks! Civic Engagement Arts program brings incarcerated youth and teaching artists, primarily with lived experience of incarceration, together with prominent artists and leaders, empowering them to use their voices and their votes to be agents of civic change. Exercises of theater, poetry, visual arts and music teach youth methods of self exploration, emotional capacity and social engagement. Through these exercises, youth have the opportunity to unpack and heal the trauma associated with their incarcerated experience and become the leaders of the future and voices of their communities.

Creative Acts is an exciting, fast-paced organization The organization seeks a new motivated and collaborative manager to partner with the staff, Alumni Lab, teaching artists and the Board to take the Art Attacks! Program to its next level of programmatic reach and organization. 

Education/Experience:

This position does not require a formal degree, however, strong experience in education and the arts is ideal.

The Ideal Candidate:

  • Ability to use and Microsoft Suite, Google Suite, with particular strengths in Excel Google Calendar, Sheets, and Teams

  • Ability to multitask, implement multiple projects simultaneously, self-start and problem solve independently

  • Excellent people skills, management experience a plus

  • Strength in maintaining budgets, scheduling, and keeping detailed inventories

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Interest/experience in building curriculum, training teachers, and researching/implementing effective program improvements 

  • Strong interest in Civic Engagement, American History, and the Arts

  • Experience teaching young people between the ages of 14-18, preferably at- promise youth

  • Experience with justice involved youth and/or people with lived experience of incarceration


Duties

 Coordinate all Art Attacks Programs Including:

o   Scheduling Class Dates and Times with each eligible camp and hall

o   Assist the Organization Directors in creating teaching teams and scheduling teaching artists

o   Recruiting and scheduling guest artists

o   Supervising the Probation Clearance process for all Teaching Artists, Guests, etc. 

o   Scheduling and running teacher trainings 

o   Coordinating necessary carpools and supplies transport

o   Tracking all Art Attacks! employee hours, mileage, and reimbursements and submitting to the Director of Operations and organization bookkeepers

o   Accurately tracking program spending and maintain budgets

o   Coordinating all necessary substitutions

o   Purchasing and packing, and unpacking supplies and ensuring that Probation Staff are given detailed and accurate forms outlining counts 

o   Meeting with Probation Staff, overseeing any issues with probation or teaching artists that arise during the program

o   Supervising Teaching Artists and assisting in class improvements

o   Collecting all notes, data, photos, etc. from each program and filing them both in office and digitally 

o Submit photos and information to the Director of Communications for social media posts and assist in the creation of the annual impact report

  Supervise Art Attacks Program and Curriculum Expansion:

o   Work with the Alumni Lab and Organization Directors to create and implement new exercises and art projects that improve the program 

o   Work with the Organization Directors to expand the Art Attacks! Virtual Reality component and content

o   Work with the Director of Development to pursue funding expansion for the program

o   Work with all departments to pursue overall expansion of the program both in and out of juvenile camps and halls

o   Recruit and train new Art Attacks Teaching Artists and create materials to help improve the current Teaching Artists’ knowledge and implementation of the program

 

Compensation: $35.00/HR + additional compensation for all teaching 

Hours: 20 hours per week, opportunity for up to 30 hours during programming weeks

Hybrid Remote/In Person: The Art Attacks Manager must work in person at the Creative Acts office located in Inglewood, CA every Thursday from 10am – 2pm. All other regular staff hours may be worked remotely. Virtual attendance to the Monday staff meeting from 10:30am – 12pm is required. Teaching, teacher trainings, and other additional in-person hours are available during programming.
